THESIS WORK (2013)

The images shown here are ones that I made as part of my arts-based thesis research for my Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy.  My thesis is a three-part study that explores the experience of Central American immigrant women in expressive arts therapy groups in Massachusetts and abroad.  The process focuses on three major themes: (1) Clinical: expressive arts therapy groups with young immigrant women in Massachusetts, (2) SocioCultural: reconnecting to the Central American context to inform future work with deportees and undocumented immigrants, and (3) Countertransferential: the experience of an expressive arts therapy researcher undertaking work with undocumented young women.
HandReach Therapeutic Mural with Burn Survivors

For several years I have been involved with the organization HandReach International as a board member, program coordinator and facilitator of therapeutic drumming and muraling.  HandReach International brings integral care to trauma survivors worldwide (specifically pediatric burn survivors) through their unique holistic model for healing and clinical training. In 2013 I facilitated a therapeutic mural with children, families and clinicians at the China General Airforce Hospital in Beijing, to help establish a sense of connection and home for those who would spend much of their lives returning to this place.
